Predictions, patterns, and shadows… fulfilled

R. T. France, in Jesus and the Old Testament, summarizing the forward flow of redemptive history.

To [Jesus’] coming the whole Old Testament had looked forward; not only the actual predictions in the prophets and the psalms, but the very pattern of God’s working recorded in the Old Testament was preparing for the final and perfect work of God, which in his coming had begun.

In him we move from shadows to reality; in him God’s purposes are fulfilled at last, and all that now remains is the working out of this fulfillment to its final consummation (224).
